最近讀了Daniel Pink的書A whole new mind，中文譯為未來在等待的人才。

這本書主要在說明，不久的未來，設計創意工作會越來越重要，
他說人類社會由工業時代，進到資訊時代，再來就要進化到所謂的感性時代(Conceptual Age)
我發現原來我念的三個學位正是依照這個順序在前進 (真厲害！)

他提到六種關鍵能力(sense)，分別是：

一、不只有功能，還重設計(design)。
二、不只有論點，還說故事(story)。
三、不只談專業，還須整合(symphony)。
四、不只講邏輯，還給關懷(empathy)。
五、不只能正經，還會玩樂(play)。
六、不只顧賺錢，還重意義(meaning)。

其中有一章提到CHAD (Charter High School for Architecture and Design)，是一家費城的公立學校，它證明設計可以拓展心智，同時更打破設計是少數人專屬的迷思。學生大部份是低收入戶，四分之三是非裔，過去他們在一般學校幾乎沒有機會，目前卻有八成可以進入二年制或四年制大學。它的教學目標之一是透過設計課程，來引導其他核心學科課程，如數學、科學、語文、社會等科目。只要方法適合，許多學生的潛能因而被釋放出來，證明他們有學習多種學科的能力。透過實際的經驗，有些學生的感受學習能力，並不像他們在紙筆測驗上的笨拙。還有一點有趣的，它是全費城唯一沒有金屬探測器的中學。

現在的教育不知用了多少時間和人力物力在讓學生學一些沒有用的東西，或者方法完全不適當，
造成巨大的浪費和時間的延誤，人的一生可只有一次啊。

總之，根據這本書，未來的世界好像是屬於學設計的，
讀設計的人和家長讀了，大概會放心不少吧。

昨天承ss老師好意，贈我遠流的創智慧這本書，原文為On Intelligence。

原來這是Palm創辦人 Jeff Hawkins所寫的一本探討大腦運作的原理，
他不只錢賺夠了，還念念不忘腦神經研究，自行創立了紅木神經科學院，
更在2003年獲選為美國國家工程研究院院士。

腦神經科學近年來已累積了許多重大發現，
但是還是很難知道大腦內部如何運作。
就像用三用電表接在電腦上，試圖猜出它的作業系統和應用程式怎麼寫的一樣，幾乎是不可能的任務。

他專長於行動運算，發明了PalmPilot和Treo，
但很不尋常的，他更醉心於大腦研究，如同他在序言中所說的，這是支撐他的兩大Passion。

Lean thinking is a five-step thought process proposed by James Womack and Daniel Jones in their book Lean Thinking to guide executives and managers through a lean transformation. The five steps are:
1.Specify value from the standpoint of the end customer by product family.
2.Identify all the steps in the value stream for each product family, eliminating whenever possible those steps that do not create value.
3.Make the value creating steps occur in tight sequence so the product will flow smoothly toward the customer.
4.As flow is introduced, let customers pull value from the next upstream activity.
5.As value is specified, value streams are identified, wasted steps are removed, and flow and pull are introduced, begin the process again and continue it until a state of perfection is reached in which perfect value is created with no waste.
